SPAIN 1 - 0GERMANY

Spain over came powerhouse Germany 1-0 in the final of EURO 2008, becoming Champions in a thrilling final in Vienna. The final was a classic and Euro 2008 must go down as the best ever Euro Championships. Austria and Switzerland put on a top-notch show and for 22 days we were treated to a spectacle, Danke!

Spain began the slower of the two teams but eventually took control of the game, sealing a well-earned victory!!

Spain the dark horse soaked up early pressure from Germany but thereafter, always looked like champions to be.

Everything they did came off and at times Germany were hanging on for dear life. Spain's performance was the perfect performance I'd made reference to in the last daily Shot & they delivered it too!!!!

The hero of the game: Fernando Torres El Niño ("The Kid") who put Germany to the sword scoring in the 33rd minute with a well placed shot past Lehmann into the bottom right corner. Germany would attempt to get back into the game but Spain shut the door tight & it was only a matter of time until there was no time!

Germany literally ran out of time, gas and ideas due to Spain's impressive team display but they didn't quit!!

Spain didn't quit either, defending territory right until the final whistle. You always look for a hero from each team in such a big game but where Spain in concerned, individuals mean nothing, this was a team performance.

It was a tight event & either team could have won it but as always, there can only be one. Spain claimed their second ever European title with this dramatic victory; the other came back in 1964 winning 2-1 over USSR.

So Greece finally handed over their trophy and for the next 4 years, Spain will reign as Champions of Europe & they totally deserve it!!!!

To those inside the Elephant & Castle (full to capacity) I'm sure most of you had a good time & it was great to see so many nations represented, thanks for a great ride !!!!
